I had never used a pressure cooker before
I bought this and was going to learn how to do some canning. I had never used a pressure cooker before, so I was apprehensive about cooking with one. I made my first thing ever in any pressure cooker today with this one. I made beef stew, that cooked in 12 minutes and tasted better than any stew that took me all day to make. Pressure cooking is wonderful, and this is a great one. I am very happy that I bought this. This thing is built like a tank, very sturdy and easy to use. I always do my research before buying anything, and would always prefer to put my money into quality items that will last. This is it! American has a great reputation for quality cookers. I suppose a tank could run over this and break it...maybe. Well worth the investment. Nothing complicated or computerized to break. You won't need another one, and I suspect your children won't either. Have fun!
Absolutely LOVE it!
I did a lot of research on pressure canners before I bought this one. I finally purchased this All America 915 2 years ago and as a "beginner canner-person", I followed the directions to a "T". If you do this every time, it is perfectly safe.
It is extremely sturdy and I got the 915 because it was large enough for me to cook 7 quarts or 10 pints, but not so large that I couldn't move it around when necessary. I was afraid that if I got the really large one, I'd have to get on a step stool to place the jars in the canner, and that's not too safe either. Also, the metal-on-metal lid is great. Just wipe the canner and lid rims with a light coating of olive oil and you're set to go. All this is explained in the handbook, but sometimes we overlook these little tips.
If you are a very sparse canner, then you could probably get by with another brand, but if you are going to be doing serious canning, then this All American is your best bet. You get what you pay for,...
